About

I’m Dr Luke Rex Miller, DPhil, MMath, BSc. I have a long-held passion for Mathematics, Data and Computer Science. My academic background is in Mathematics and Statistics, having obtained degrees from the Universities of Oxford (DPhil / PhD) and Leeds (MMath, BSc). I can program in languages such as Python, R and SQL, and I’m proficient in other programming paradigms such as Kubernetes, Docker, AWS CloudFormation and git.

I have accrued over nine years of professional experience working for companies large and small, including Travelex, JHA LLP and Verv. In this time, I have worked in a variety of roles from progressive research on blue skies Data Science projects to pragmatic application of well-known methods. I’ve tackled and solved a wide variety of challenging data problems, from analyses using Bayesian regression (hundreds of data points) to training deep neural networks in computer audio and vision (millions of data points).

However, conducting these research projects is meaningless in a vacuum - bringing them to life is equally important. To this end, I have both developed and deployed a variety of models, ensuring that my projects enjoy end-to-end success. It is from this experience of deployment that I have picked up skills in the realm of MLOps, Data Architecture and Cloud Computing (predominantly AWS).

I’ve always been passionate about pushing the envelope and learning new skills, especially as our field is evolving at breakneck speed! Therefore, when I’m able to, I often make blog posts about the side projects that I’ve developed and you can read more about those here.
